Come from Away is a musical based on the events in Newfoundland when the town of Gander took in about 7,000 passengers when planes were rerouted due to 9/11.

We are naturally creative people, with strong accents to our heritage (have someone take you to the southern shore and you’ll think you’re in Ireland) or amazing story telling skills! You can experience mumming at Christmas time, the Regatta or George Street Festival in late summer or haunted hikes of St. John’s from spring until fall, there is always something to experience.

Education
Newfoundland and Labrador has 2 public school districts, NL Schools for English speakers and Conseil Scolaire Francophone Provincial for French speakers. There are also 5 private schools and 3 Indigenous schools and 3 alternative learning facilities. More information can be found here.
There are also many post-secondary education options available such as Memorial University which is the only university in NL as the largest university in Atlantic Canada, College of the North Atlantic which is the only public college in NL. Newfoundland and Labrador can be broken up into 5 regions, Avalon, Eastern, Central, Western and Labrador. Each of these areas are filled with their own natural beauties and many communities. Travel to Newfoundland is by ferry and plane only, while you can access Labrador via ferry (from Newfoundland), plane and road. These provinces are worth exploring all year round as each season is unique and wonderful to experience.

St. John’s
St. John’s is the capital and largest city of Newfoundland and Labrador and the 20th largest metropolitan city in Canada.
It is the easternmost city in North America (excluding Greenland) and is one of the oldest cities in North America. St. John’s had roles to play in the Seven Years’ War, The American Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, and was also the location where Guglielmo Marconi received the first transatlantic wireless signal.
Conception Bay South
Conception Bay South, often called CBS, is the second largest municipality in Newfoundland and Labrador and comprises nine communities; Topsail, Chamberlains, Manuels, Long Pond, Foxtrap, Kelligrews, Upper Gullies, Seal Cove and Lawrence Pond. Conception Bay is known for its able fishing grounds, the world’s largest tuna was caught off the coast of Long Pond and is on display in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.
Portugal Cove-St. Philips
Portugal Cove-St. Philips is one of Newfoundland’s oldest communities, with a rich history dating back to early European exploration. Portugal Cove is believed to have been named after Portuguese fishermen who visited the area in the 16th century, while St. Philips was settled in the late 18th century by pioneers like John Squires and Robin Tucker. The town played a significant role in Newfoundland’s fishing industry and was even attacked and burned by the French in 1696.
